TRES CRUCES
are in their own way as magnificent a spectacle as the Fiesta de la Virgen de Carmen. At 3739m above sea level, on the last mountain ridge before the eastern edge of the Amazon forest, the view (at night an enormous star-studded jewel, by day a twisting jungle river system or, when cloudy, an ecosytem of its own) is a marvel at any time. Yet when the sun rises it's spectacular, particularly in June around the southern hemisphere's winter solstice: multi-coloured, with multiple suns, an incredible light show that lasts for hours.
