Just beyond Kallartes, the awesome
Khrossias gorge
separates the village from its neighbour Syrko, visible high up on the west bank but a good hour's walk away. The trail is spectacular, including a near-vertical "ladder" hewn out of the rockface. Down on the bridge over the river you can peer upstream at a pair of abandoned water mills. The canyon walls are steep and the sun shines down here for only a few hours a day, even in summer.
