Quick Guide : Sydney Travel Guides Sydney Travel Tips Sydney Travel Opinions Sydney Travel Advice
Extract from the Sydney Travel Guides: It might seem surprising that Sydney, established in 1788, is not Australia's capital. Yet the creation of Canberra in 1927 - intended to stem the intense rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne - has not affected the view of many Sydneysiders that their city remains the true capital of Australia, and certainly in many ways it feels like it. The city has a tangible sense of history in the old stone walls and well-worn steps in the backstreets around The Rocks, while the sandstone cliffs, rocks and caves amongst the bushlined harbour still contain Aboriginal rock carvings, evocative reminders of a more ancient past.

Dangers : Careful in Kings X
Be careful in Kings X. Two people I met had stuff nicked from their hostel within 20 minutes of each other. There are loads of hookers and fighting etc - not a nice place

Dangers : Avoid Kings X
Avoid Kings X at all costs unless you are a backpacker and can't afford to stay anywhere else. It is a dangerous place, full of drunks, drug addicts and prostitutes. If you doubt what I say have a look in the McDonalds on the main street at 5am where the prostitutes gather to inject themselves after a hard nights work.

Going Out : The Manta ...
The Manta Ray restaurant on the Woolloomooloo Bay overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens is one of Sydneys best. Excellent food, good atmosphere and not expensive. Busy at weekends so book early. As seen on Rick Steins Seafood Lovers Guide.

To Do And See : Watching t...
Watching the Fruit Bats flying off at dusk from the Visitors Centre in the Royal Botanic gardens is a must. But bear in mind the gates get locked at 8:15. Make sure you leave in penty of time - the Park Rangers don't mess about. If you do get locked in the Rangers can be contacted at the Govt House Gate.

To Do And See : Harbour Bridge Climb
The twilight climbs tend to be $70+ more than the night climbs. The best option is to book one of the earlier night climbs then you get the best of both worlds - Twilight on the way up and the Sydney lights on the way down. Also weekends tend to get booked up so book a good three days before you want to go. Well worth the money.

To Do And See : Blue Mountains
One of the most popular days out oy Sydney is the Blue Mountains. By car it's an hour or so away on the M4 freeway. The mountains are just after Penrith.

To Do And See : Sydney Opera House
Quite often you can get in for nothing at the operas if you around at a so called 'student rush'. This is exactly what it sounds like and happens during the national anthem for instance.
