Fifteen kilometres north of Karytena and at an altitude of 1050m,
STEMNTSA
(or Ipsonda in its official Hellenicized form - Ipsos on many maps) was for centuries one of the premier metal-smithing and goldworking centres of the Balkans. Although much depopulated, it remains a fascinating town, with a small folklore museum, an artisan school and a handful of quietly magnificent medieval churches.
The town is divided by ravines into three distinct quarters: the Kstro (the ancient acropolis hill), Aya Paraskev (east of the stream) and yios Ionnis (west of the stream). The
