SKPELOS Town
, sloping down one corner of a huge, almost circular bay. The best way to arrive is by sea, with the town revealed slowly as the boat rounds the final headland. Though more and more people seem to have discovered Skpelos Town, the locals are making a tremendous effort to keep it from going the way of Skithos. The harbour area is practically wall-to-wall tavernas and cafs, but the shops and eateries in the back alleys tend to be imaginative and tasteful, with wooden, hand-painted name signs.
