Extract from the Qena Travel Guides: Until recently, tourists went to
Qena
for two reasons: its
connections
between the Nile Valley and the Red Sea Coast, and local transport to the fantastic
temples
of
Dendara
(8km west of town) and
Abydos
. Nowadays, however, Nile cruisers only dock there under guard, and few independent travellers make the day-trip from Luxor and use the town as a springboard for reaching Dendara Temple. The method of getting there we've outlined is meant to minimize contact with Qena and get you to Dendara (and back) as fast as possible.
