Extract from the Puquio Travel Guides: Head east of the Pampa Galeras Vicua Reserve along the Cusco road and you reach
PUQUIO
. As soon as you cross over the metal bridge at the entrance to the town, you'll sense that it's very different from the hot desert town of Nazca. In fact, Puquio was an isolated community until 1926, when the townspeople built their own road link between the coast and the
sierra.
If you have to break your journey here, you have a choice of three hostals, though none of them are particularly enticing. The road divides here with the main route continuing over the Andes to Cusco via Abancay.
