At the edge of the Steigerwald, about 20km south of Bamberg, the village of
POMMERSFELDEN
is dominated by
Schloss Weissenstein
(guided tours April-Oct Tues-Sun 9am-4pm; DM7/?3.50), the jewel in the crown of the enormous building programme that Prince-Bishop Lothar Franz von Schnborn funded from the sizeable fortune he assured himself by masterminding the election of Emperor Charles VI in 1711.
