The capital of Tocantins,
PALMAS
lies just under 1000km north of Braslia and just over 1200km south of Belm. The town itself, with a population of some 90,000, is inconveniently set back on the banks of the Rio Tocantins, some 150km by minor roads from the main Braslia-Belm highway BR-153, and to be honest there's little reason in coming here.
