PALEPOLI
, a hamlet of a few scattered houses, is accessible by asphalt roads from Aronidhika, Frtsia and Kondolinika. The area is the site of the ancient city of
Skandia
, and excavations on the headland of
Kastr
have revealed remains of an important Minoan colony. There's little visible evidence, apart from shards of pottery in the low crumbling cliffs, but happily, tourist development in the area has been barred because of its archeological significance. Consequently, there's just one solitary
