village

MONTSGUR
is strung out in terraced lines at the foot of its castle rock. Silent and depopulated now, the place comes to life only with the influx of tourists, most of them day-trippers. It's worth having a glance at the one-room
museum
(Feb daily 2-5.30pm; March, April, Oct & Nov daily 1-5.30pm; May-Aug daily 10am-noon & 2-5.30pm; Sept daily 10am-noon & 2-5.30pm; Dec Tues-Sun 2-5pm; free), with its collection of bits and pieces from the castle, before going up to the ruin itself.
