MARUDI
, 80km southeast of Miri on Batang Baram, is the only sizeable town in the whole Baram watershed, and the jetty is the centre of the community. For travellers, there is a useful boat from here to Long Terawan, where there's a connection for Gunung Mulu National Park (8.30am, 10am & 2.30pm; RM15) and west to Kuala Baram, where numerous buses wait to take passengers to Miri or Brunei. Marudi runs a daily nineteen-seater flight to Mulu (RM40), which must be booked ahead. It only takes a few minutes to walk from the town to the airport.
