LNDHOS
, the island's second-ranking tourist attraction, erupts from barren surroundings 12km south of Harki. Like Rdhos Old Town, its charm is heavily undermined by commercialism and crowds: up to half a million visitors in a typical year. At midday dozens of coaches park nose-to-tail on the narrow southerly access road, with even more on the drives down to the beaches. Back in the village itself, those few vernacular houses not snapped up by package operators have, since the 1960s, been bought up and refurbished by wealthy British, Germans and Italians.
