The pleasant village of
LAMPHEY
(Llandyfai), two miles southeast of Pembroke, is best known for the ruined
Bishop's Palace
(daily 10am-5pm; 2; CADW), off a quiet lane to the north of the village. A country retreat for the bishops of St David's, the palace dates from around the thirteenth century, but was abandoned following the Reformation. Stout walls surround the ruins, which are scattered over a large area. Many of the palace buildings have long been lost under grassy banks.
