LAGES
from the days when it was an important resting place on the route northwards to the market in Sorocaba, to which cattle and mules were herded. Nowadays, Lages, 76km northwest of So Joaquim, is a collection of anonymous post-1950s buildings, and only the presence in town of visiting ranchers and cowhands, dressed in the characteristic baggy pantaloons, sash and poncho, reminds you that the town is at the northern edge of
