La Pimentel
offers a decent, safe
beach
for swimming and
surfing
(competitions take place in Dec and Jan). It became a busy port under military rule in the 1970s, exporting agricultural products from the co-operative haciendas, but it's now better known for its small-scale fishing industry, much of it using the traditional
caballitos de tortora.
For a small fee ($0.25) you can access the long pier that divides the seafront
malecon
in two, and you can see the fishermen....
