, overlooking Killala Bay as the coast curves back round towards Ballina, is a must, both for the magnificent local scenery and for its historical connections. Scene of one of the most significant events in Irish history - the unsuccessful French invasion organized by Wolfe Tone in 1798
- it's a pleasantly run-down seaside town, so small it's difficult to believe it's a bishopric, with lovely, wild sea coasts and some good roads for cycling.
