Kat Hing Wai
, one of Hong Kong's last inhabited
walled villages

Dating back to the late seventeenth century when a clan named Tang settled here, the village ($1 donation to enter) still comprises thick six-metre-high walls and guard towers, although most traces of the moat have gone. Inside the walls, there's a wide lane running down the middle of the village, with tiny alleys leading off it. A few souvenir sellers and old Hakka ladies in traditional hats pester visitors with cameras for more donations, but the atmosphere is as different from Hong Kong as you can...
