IRATI
and
MALLET
are not especially interesting in themselves, but both are useful jumping-off points for visiting the Ukrainian villages and hamlets nearby. The two towns are very similar in character, both straddling the rail line to which they owed their existence and growth during the first decades of the twentieth century. Mallet - smaller and generally less developed - is marginally the more attractive of the two, and its small Ukrainian Catholic church is worth a visit, as is the train station which dates back to 1903.
