IMBITUBA
, once one of the most attractive points along the coast, should be approached with caution. Imbituba's main function is that of a port serving the nearby coalfields; from here coal is sent north to the steel mills of Volta Redonda for coking. The town's beaches are polluted and, should you want putting off further, so too is the air, thanks to the carbo-chemical plant. Despite these features, however, there are some very attractive beaches to the south of town and some lovely small
