From Nrdlingen, it's only about 15km by road or rail to the next stop on the Romantic Road, the picturesquely sited little town of
HARBURG
. High above, dominating the valley of the River Wrnitz, is a huge
Schloss
(guided tours: mid-March to Sept Tues-Sun 9am-5pm; Oct Tues-Sun 9.30am-4.30pm; DM5/?2.50), which was founded in the twelfth century by the Hohenstaufen emperors, before passing to the counts of Oettingen, whose descendants still own it.
