Extract from the Govedartsi and Malyovits Travel Guides:
Thirty kilometres southwest of Samokov, Malyovitsa is everything that Borovets isn't: a tiny, secluded hiking base with limited - but rewarding - skiing in the winter, no package tourists, and a single, rather frugal, hotel. It's reached by a minor road which heads out of Samokov along the banks of the Cherni Iskr, a burbling rivulet whose banks used to be packed with people camping wild before 1990, when the happy-go-lucky tourism of the Communist era speedily went out of fashion. A private minibus shuttles between Samokov and Malyovitsa twice daily in the summer and winter seasons: otherwise you're on your own.
