At first sight, tiny
FRKES
doesn't appear to have much going for it. Wedged in a valley between two steep hills, it was only settled in the sixteenth century, and emigration in the nineteenth century almost emptied the place - as few as two hundred people live here today - but the protected harbour is a natural year-round port. Consequently, Frkes stays open for tourism far later in the season than neighbouring Kini, and has a better range of tavernas. There are no beaches in the village, but plenty of good, if small, pebble strands a short walk away towards Kini.
