is more of a museum to itself, a town which, at its peak, had twenty-three hotels, three breweries and six newspapers serving a population ten times greater than its present fifteen hundred. Arthur Bayley increased the pitch of the gold fever when he returned to Southern Cross - then the easternmost extent of the rush - in 1892 with nearly sixteen kilograms of gold.
