Just past Gros Islet at the Shell petrol station, a dirt track known as the Cas-en-Bas Road strikes east off the coastal highway toward a small settlement on the remote east coast called
CAS-EN-BAS
, worth visiting for its string of secluded
beaches
. You can walk the track in an hour, much more appealing than negotiating the endless mucky potholes by 4WD - don't even attempt it after rain, or in a normal car. Alternatively, you could approach the beaches via the road behind the golf course in Cap Estate, a much less exhausting, albeit less interesting, option.
