Extract from the Cairo Travel Guides:
The twin streams of Egypt's history converge just below the Delta at
Cairo
, where the greatest city in the Islamic world sprawls across the Nile towards the
Pyramids
, those supreme monuments of antiquity. Every visitor to Egypt comes here, to reel at the Pyramids' baleful mass and the seething immensity of Cairo, with its bazaars, mosques and Citadel and extraordinary Antiquities Museum. It's equally impossible not to find yourself carried away by the streetlife, where medieval trades and customs coexist with a modern, cosmopolitan mix of Arab, African and European influences.

| Getting Around : To and from Heliopolis |
|
| If you are trying to get from the Cairo International Airport to central Cairo, you have many modes of transport to take.
If you go by a private vehicle, you may have to go from Salah Salem Road leading to Heliopolis.
Several car hire companies are available, but may be an expensive matter to do so.
Black and white taxis are plying constantly to and from the airport. An airport bus service operates from Terminal 1 (which is the old airport). Bus no. 400 leaves approximately every 30 minutes during the day and every hour at night.

| To Do And See : Stephen Avenue |
|
| You will find walking around Stephen Avenue a great experience because of its historic sandstone architecture.
When youve done with that, go further to the Old City Hall where you will see the Hudsons Bay Company building as well as the old Bank of Montreal building.

| To Do And See : Shopping |
|
| Bargaining or haggling is a part of life in Cairo and virtually everything is open to negotiation. For the tourist this mainly relates to buying anything in the market/bazars. There are a few basic rules that you need to remember. 1. Never offer a price that you cannot afford 2. Take your time and relax 3. Enjoy the sport of it all and don't feel obliged to buy. |

| To Stay : Windsor Hotel |
|
| Stay at the Windsor Hotel: 19 Alfi Bei Street, Cairo, Egypt. The Barrel Bar is a great place to hang out and the staff are very friendly. Take a tour to Giza from this hotel. We met the owner who was very friendly and told us all about Michael Palin's stay there while he was on one of his travels. |
