Extract from the Budhanilkantha Travel Guides: A paved road leads 8km north from Kathmandu to BUDHANILKANTHA (pronounced Bu da-nil- kan ta), site of a monolithic sleeping Vishnu statue that is one of the valley's most impressive reminders of its semi-mythic early history. The surrounding bazaar supports a lively trade in religious paraphernalia, sweets and tea, but the Vishnu statue, set in a walled compound, is the only real attraction of the place. Try to make it here in time for the morning puja (9-10am), when things are most interesting.
