BOA VISTA
must be one of the largest small towns on earth. Unrelentingly hot, modern and concrete, its planners laid it out on a grand but charmless scale, with broad tree-lined boulevards divided by traffic islands and a vast Praa do Centro Cvico, swirling with traffic, from which streets radiate just unevenly enough to confuse the otherwise perpendicular grid. Clearly this is meant to be a fitting capital for the development of Roraima - and there are large stores full of ranching and mining equipment which reflect that growth.
