Seventeenth-century chronicles tell of pilgrims descending on
BALATONFRED
to "camp in scattered tents" and benefit from the mineral springs. Some 30,000 people come here every year for treatment at the springs, mingling with hordes of tourists, giving this popular Balaton resort a distinctive, sedate air.
