BAL
, on the coast approximately halfway between Irklion and Rthymnon, used to be tranquil and undeveloped, and by the standards of the north coast it still is in many ways. The village is built around a trio of small coves, some 2km from the highway (a hot walk from the bus), and is similar to Aya Pelaya except that the beaches are not quite as good and there are no big hotels, just an ever-growing proliferation of studios, apartment buildings, rooms for rent and a number of "modest hotels" (brochure-speak).
