More worthy of your time than anything in Tralee itself is the ruined thirteenth-century cathedral at
ARDFERT
, five miles to the northwest. In a landscape littered with ruined ring forts, castles and churches, Ardfert was the site of a monastery founded by St Brendan in the seventh century, and later became the centre of the Anglo-Norman church in Kerry. As well as some interesting monastic remains, there's a
Franciscan friary
and two smaller fifteenth-century churches.
